AVAST is free for non commercial home use. It's a pretty decent anti-virus program.

Remember too, it's a 3 pronged approach for worthwhile security.

1) Virus Scanner - keep it updated too.

2) Firewall - Windows Firewall is fine.

3) Malware/Adware/etc - Windows Defender works nicely if you keep it updated.

Stay away from Norton,really slows down computers,try avast,its free and its number 1 in pc magazine.It works great with windows defender,it is free too.Good luck
Dont buy Nortons......it will slow your computer down drastically.

The Best are free. Get www.kubuntu.org and dump that insecure Windows operating system for maximum security.

Next best is to get windows then go to www.majorgeeks.com and download for free Anti Vir or AVG.

Pls. help... i think my computer has a virus, & i dunno what to do : (?

first, it started in when i always trying to open my yahoo messenger, the freesignup in greencard in new york, was poping-up.

then, after i talked to my uncle in yahoo messenger, the internet become slow, then my computer detects a virus...

first, i dont mind it... but when this number appeared(64.62.228.66)...i feel thats its really a virus.

after that,i click norton antivirus,

then the symantec starting to pop-up it says "scanning message 1of1" and theres a taskbar that poping-up too,and it always says " your e-mail message to blabla with the subject of blabla was unable to sent because..... blabla

then, i try to turn-off my computer, but its still poping-up. After that, i decided to not open my computer in a week.

after a week, i open my computer and its still poping-up,and when i trying to click nortonantivirus it always says " nortonantivirus has encountered an internal program error.uninstall %26 reinstall norton."

what should i do to stop this virus?

If you are using XP then try doing the following things

1. Goto RUN and type msconfig

2. In the startup tab uncheck all weird looking exe's something like (ghynp.exe) that was just an example.

3. I am sure there will be loads of them, but be sure that you dont uncheck the OS ones.

"drivecleaner" virus HELP!!!?

i got scammed! one of those d*** popup ads saying that for security purposes i needed to download DRIVECLEANER. like a d*****ss, i hit ok. but before i ran or saved the file, i got skeptical, apparently too late, so i canceled and thought it may not have downloaded. guess it did, b/c now my nortonantivirus is saying that it found a *HIGH RISK* virus - drivecleaner - but my subscription ran out. my dad renews it, but im scared by tomorrow, its gonna do some damage to my computer!!! PLUS, my computer wont even shut down now. when i go to turn it off, the norton thing keeps popping up, and wont allow me to shut down. PLEASE HELP!!!!

You can try going to your control panel and click on 'add or remove programs'see if its there and if it is remove it.
I got hit by that stupid thing too.

Just unplug your computer, then reboot it, empty your cache memory, then go to add/remove programs and see what new programs are loaded on your computer that you don't recognize.

AntiVirus Protection?

I ran into a problem with some viruses on my computer recently. I've run AVG, AdAware, NortonAntiVirus and Spybot Search and Destroy at different times and the problem seems to have been solved, with the exception of my computer starting up very slowly and then internet explorer taking a while to open when launched.

So today I removed NAV and am currently just running Spybot Search and Destroy. Will that provide me adequate protection going forward or should I consider adding something else - something that won't detract from my pc's performance. I've read good things about AVG and didn't know whether I should put that back on again - or something else.

Spybot S%26D is a spyware removal tool and can block most spyware before it installs, however, it isn't an antivirus product so if you uninstalled Norton, you need to download antivirus (if the AVG you referred to is the AVG Antispyware).

If you wish to buy, which is a good idea, go for McAfee firewall. AOL uses it and it is damn good. My Sony computer comes with it. Trust me, this thing is good.

Please help!I have NortonAntivirus but tht never really helped me fix it.I used Spyware Doctor and it says I have a Trojen downloader and a FavoriteMan.I pressed fix to delete both of them and 10 minutes later it says its there AGAIN!On my desktop it says Warning Spyware Threat has been detected on your PC Your cumpute has severl fatal errors due to this activity.Then it says click here to scan your pc for spyware.When I click it comes up with a page that sells spyware products!HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS!Sorry but I'am freaking out right now!

The exact same thing happen to my computer. I'm so fed up w/ all the pop ups ... UGH! I need help i have Norton software but it doesnt seem to fix it or help w/ anything. . . I downloaded that AVG software for viruses and it said i had to delete it before it worked, so if i delete it can i retrieve it back later?!?!

Whenever I want to send an attachment from my yahoo mail address I cannot, this operation in not allowed to me.I could send attachments before,but we moved 5 months ago(in Canada) and since then my husband and me, we cannot send attachments.I mention that we both have a yahoo mail address,each of us has one address,so we have two addresses on yahoo.When I want to send an attachement I click on"browse", I select what I want to attach,and then when I click on "attach files" nothing happens.I also mention that it is written there that my attachments are scanned by NortonAntivirus 2006, if this helps to something. I think that maybe something is wrong with my computer, because all my friends can send attachments.Maybe this happens because of the antiviruses that I have installed on my computer?What do you think?Thank you very much for your answers!

do u have the yahoo mail beta? If so hit the switch back button that will solve all of your problems. The mail beta has been having alot of problems lately. i switched back to the old mail because i was unable to attach files to mail, wasnt able to get in my folders i created in my mail, i couldnt forward mail to another account.
