HELP!!! Norton Internet Security 2008?

I had downloaded 2008 Norton Internet Security. Then it asked me to restart my computer which I did. Then my 2 year old pulled the plug on my computer and now all i have on my computer for Norton Internet Security is the following:

an icon that says "Install Internet Security 2008". When I double click on the icon it says "Norton Internet Security" and at the bottom it says "extracting files". Then it comes up with a large Norton Internet Security icon that says "Modify Installation". I only have the option of clicking on two bottons: Cancel or Remove all (completely removes Norton Internet Security from your System".

I have already paid for 2007 %26 2008 as part of a two year package. How can I get Norton 2008 to do the final installation part where you need to restart you computer for the icons to appear on the left hand side and the bottom right hand side of your screen????????????

The install could have been corrupt .. Uninstall and of course re-install . Be sure to run a "Full System Scan" after install is complete . To Uninstall %26gt; Navigate %26gt; Start/All Programs/Norton Internet Secutity/Uninstall . You could try and install on top of the existing program , however it is always recommended to uninstall .

do the remove all option.. then reinstall the software.. it wont be asking for the Product Key anymore since its already saved in the registry and log file.. if that still doesn't work..

go to the symantec support site and download the norton removal tool then reinstall it from clean slate.. but you need to re-enter your product key. so hope this works out for you..
if you haven't registered it yet, then i would uninstall(remove) it and reinstall it.

I had Norton Internet Security 2007 and it was one of the best downloads that I ever had for my laptop. Whenever I talk to people about Norton, they always complain about how it slows your computer down. My argument is that I've never received a virus while having it. all that means is that your Norton antivirus didn't notice the virus, so you might have viruses that you don't know about, I had Norton works 2005 ( includes antivirus, firewall, and reg cleaner ), and I thought I was virus free till my contract expired and I uninstalled it and downloaded AVG antivirus and it found lots of viruses and Trojans that Norton missed,also the Norton's 2005 works really did slow down my computer and I noticed a real speed up in my computer after I uninstalled it, maybe the 2007 version is better, but I have lost all faith in Norton's, by the Way AVG is completly free

i have Norton Internet Security 2008 fully installed on my computer with a 3pc liscence, now i want to install it on my laptop but have lost the key and the disk, ive downloaded the insall package but was wondering if i can recover the key from the computer somehow? also i have a norton internet security account however the product is not on it therefore i cannot recover the key this way

if i'm not mistaken, I think Norton saves a copy of your key on your pc in Documents. Either that or I saved it myself.

I'm surprised you can't find it by signing into your Norton account online. I have had to do that once when I had to reformat my drive.

if you created a norton account when you installed the software, log into the site and your product key should be on there...Norton is a really bad product though...Should go with Nod32 or kaspersky its well worth the money, and a whole lot better then norton
Hi, when you install Norton it normally creates a text file with your key and Norton then places this text file in a folder called Norton in your My Documents folder. Worth taking a look :-)

Why would you want to slow your system down or even use a non antivirus programe. You will find that it never find any but lets loads in mate. Why not use the freebies Avg, Spybot, Adaware you will be protected then mate.

My sincere suggestion. If you want better security, please DO NOT use Norton. It's a system hog %26 the firewall just isn't good enough.

Download Avast Home Edition from Avast's website and I can assure you I haven't had a Trojan/malware/adware infection since 18 months !!!!

If you want a paid Solution, I suggest Kapersky or NOD32 .
I agree with most of the comments. Norton is an ok system when its running fine but as soon as you have a problem getting in touch with them is a pain in the ***. You either have to email (which takes days to get an answer) or phone which will cost an arm and a leg. I wont be renewing.

To help with your problem i would uninstall as advised then install another service. I would get your computer looked at first though as there may be a virus on it that is preventing the install process and would happen again possibly with any new soft ware. Try spybot,to check for viruses, its free and works on a donation basis if you want too.

I have a 5 year old HP Pavilion a630n desktop and I just recently got internet acess on this computer. I was using fine for about 3 months and now all of a sudden I get a whole slew of pop-ups that I don't want to see or deal with. I got Norton Internet Security 2008 software package %26 still I get spyware %26 very adult oriented pop ups. I tried going through the Tools=%26gt; Internet Options=%26gt;Security Tab option to clean up %26 permanently REMOVE each pop up that my poor old computer gets inundated with.

I don't use this computer to surf the adult oriented websites I blocked those features b4 I received any internet acess so I wouldn't encounter problems like this. If you use the Firefox webbrowser you won't get as many popups and it's resistant to all that garbage that regularly infects Internet explorer. When you use firefox it's much better them msie. SO go to Mozilla.com or firefox.com and download firefox. you will like it much better.

Ok, if it is just a temporary internet file...do this...

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Click on Tools, Internet Options

3. There should be section on that first pane called temporary internet files. Go ahead and click on delete files.

4. Make sure to empty your recycle bin, then run norton scan again.

AVAST is free for non commercial home use. It's a pretty decent anti-virus program.

Remember too, it's a 3 pronged approach for worthwhile security.

1) Virus Scanner - keep it updated too.

2) Firewall - Windows Firewall is fine.

3) Malware/Adware/etc - Windows Defender works nicely if you keep it updated.

If you are using XP then try doing the following things

1. Goto RUN and type msconfig

2. In the startup tab uncheck all weird looking exe's something like (ghynp.exe) that was just an example.

3. I am sure there will be loads of them, but be sure that you dont uncheck the OS ones.

i got scammed! one of those d*** popup ads saying that for security purposes i needed to download DRIVECLEANER. like a d*****ss, i hit ok. but before i ran or saved the file, i got skeptical, apparently too late, so i canceled and thought it may not have downloaded. guess it did, b/c now my nortonantivirus is saying that it found a *HIGH RISK* virus - drivecleaner - but my subscription ran out. my dad renews it, but im scared by tomorrow, its gonna do some damage to my computer!!! You can try going to your control panel and click on 'add or remove programs'see if its there and if it is remove it.
I got hit by that stupid thing too.

Just unplug your computer, then reboot it, empty your cache memory, then go to add/remove programs and see what new programs are loaded on your computer that you don't recognize.

AntiVirus Protection?

I ran into a problem with some viruses on my computer recently. I've run AVG, AdAware, NortonAntiVirus and Spybot Search and Destroy at different times and the problem seems to have been solved, with the exception of my computer starting up very slowly and then internet explorer taking a while to open when launched.

So today I removed NAV and am currently just running Spybot Search and Destroy. Will that provide me adequate protection going forward or should I consider adding something else - something that won't detract from my pc's performance. I've read good things about AVG and didn't know whether I should put that back on again - or something else.

ok, on saturday, march 3rd, i was browsing the internet, i was watching a "video" and it said that it was not compatible with Windows Media Player, i should have been suspicious then, but i downloaded it anyway.

That sounds nasty indeed. Ok, there's a few things you can try out here :

1. Try to restore your PC to an earlier time (2nd March) using System Restore.

2. Get NOD32, install it, run your PC in Safe Mode and run an in-depth analysis from NOD32. It's the best antivirus software out there. (and get rid of that Norton crap !!).

Virus Infection?

My pc was infected by Downloader.MisleadApp.

I tried to delete the file where the infection is, but failed. Also tried to delete it when the pc is at Safe mode but failed too.

NortonAntivirus failed to delete or repair the file.

The infected file called eulbn.dll, located at the windows folder in system 32 folder.

Can anyone advise me how to get rid of the file?

I have been receiving somewhat unwelcome intrusions on my Norton Antivirus 2007 software, rarely do I not see the Norton notification window open and informing me that it has stopped yet another attempt to infiltrate my computer by unwanted hackers. I read in the Norton Help that you can add IP Addresses to the Block list, so that you do not receive communication with/from them, I was wondering how do I go about initiating entering numerous IP addresses to this list, so that I can get some uninterrupted computer use without being at risk from hacking?? I have looked around on the Norton Antivirus user interface and can't see anything, I see a window that exists for adding such a list, but cannot add any IPs as the buttons are disabled.

I don't think you can add IP addresses to Norton Antivirus. NAV looks at files already on your computer, not IP addresses.

Firewalls look at IP addresses. If you mean you're getting notifications from Norton Firewall or Norton Internet Security, adding an IP address to the block list won't do anything. The notification is itself indication that the firewall did its job.

Now, if you do mean NIS or Norton Firewall, poke around in it and look for a way to reduce the notification frequency. That won't affect the operation, just the interruptions.

Any Firewall program will continually boast about the intrusion attempts it has blocked, if you let it. Don't worry about it! Just TURN OFF the intrusion notification.

You must have Norton Internet Security, not just Antivirus. The off switch should be amongst the firewall settings and intrusion notification is off by default so just restoring the default settings should do.
